How To Train Your Dog In Three Easy Steps » Train Your Dog How To Bark At The Door

Stopping Your Dog From Barking

If you own a dog then you probably know what it's like to have him bark up a storm. When I got my first dog he barked all night for the first couple of weeks! Stopping your dog from barking excessively is important if you want it to be liked by others besides yourself. If you've had a dog for some time you probably are used to its occasional barking which lets you know when someone is at your door or when the mail arrives.

There is usually an explanation for why a dog barks. Dogs don't just bark for no reason. Some dogs naturally bark more than others and will bark at everything. Other dogs will bark only when territorial boundaries become an issue. Another reason dogs bark is because they have territorial disputes with others. When you bring them into your home it becomes their home too and they don't like others at their home. Your friends may be your friends but your dog has no acquaintance with them and sees them as invaders most of the time (unless they're really nice dogs). When a dog notices someone coming onto their territory they will bark.

Dogs bark at others and it is a sign for you to check out what they are barking at. Most of the time dogs will bark at anybody passing by but if you live in a remote area with houses separated by acres of land then a dog can really help you in knowing when someone is around.

When dog owners hear barking, at first it may seem alarming but after a while owners become agitated and tell the dog to stop. Yelling at your dog is not very effective. If you yell at your dog when it is barking it might just think you are helping it out in barking at the intruder.

Training your dog to bark properly is a great thing to do. Stopping barking at the wrong times is even better. A good way to train them is to have them bark when there is someone at the door. However, train them right and make sure they stop barking and only bark once. They don't need to continue.

Using pavlovian psychology, this can be done relatively easy. Doing this will have your dog bark when a stranger comes but stop after that. It'll let you know somebody is there without having to hush up the dog over and over again.
